Coaching

Why Coaching?

There are lots of choices on how to get "unstuck" and to help you realize your fullest potential, but how do you know which type of service is best for you?

Coaching vs. Therapy

  • Both psychotherapy and coaching use knowledge of human behavior, motivation and behavioral change, and interactive techniques. The major differences are in the goals, focus, and level of professional responsibility.

  • Psychotherapy explores where you are now in relation to current and past experiences and helps you work on resolving and healing from old stuff so you can get on with the business of being your best damn you® in the present and future.

  • Coaching or transformation mentoring focus on where you are now and where you want to be, assuming you are well-equipped with everything you need to become your best damn you®.

  • In coaching or transformational mentoring, the work is typically very goal oriented and will have specific, measurable markers to indicate progress.  Therapy may also be goal oriented, but the objectives will be more focused on developing deeper insights.

  • Psychotherapy is often a longer term and deeper relationship - an ongoing dialogue, whereas coaching or transformation mentoring is typically shorter term and more goal oriented.

  • If you have an emotional or mental health challenge (like anxiety, depression, OCD, or post-traumatic stress disorder) a psychotherapist will be able to help you in ways that a coach or transformation mentor simply can't. However, psychotherapists are also trained to help with the same issues as coaches; it isn't necessary to have a mental health problem to talk with a licensed therapist, but if you do have a mental health issue, a coach cannot help you with that.

  • If you don't have emotional or mental health challenges, but do have challenges overcoming obstacles, improving relationships, navigating challenging transitions (divorce, re-careering, dating),  increasing life-satisfaction, or excelling at a sport or vocation, a coach or transformation mentor may be perfect for your needs.

  • Therapists are required to have advanced degrees, thousands of hours of closely supervised work, pass intense licensure exams, maintain dozens of annual continuing education hours, and be licensed to practice in whichever state(s) their clients reside.  While there are many great coaches out there, coaching is an unregulated field with no licensure or oversight regulations.

  • You can verify a therapist's license with your state's licensing board. You can also talk with any potential therapist to inquire about their educational background, issues they work with, and special training or certifications they may have. Because the field of coaching is unregulated, it is not a profession with a minimum acceptable standard of ongoing education or training for its members.

How does coaching help?

Accountability:

Typically we will meet weekly via 50 minute scheduled video chats. These regularly scheduled calls create urgency and accountability to help you get more done than you might if left to your own devices. Think about it: if you're like me, when you work out with a personal trainer at the gym, you work much harder than on your own, right? My clients take bolder actions, set bigger goals and think big picture when they work with me - and that helps propel them towards success on their goals!

Expertise:

As an experienced transformation mentor and coach, I know how to help you set the right goals and structure your personal and professional life to achieve greater productivity with less effort. If you put in the work, you’ll achieve more in less time with my input on your side.

Delivery:

By virtue of my experience as a therapist and as a successful entrepreneur, I have the skills and know how to use the language of Motivational Interviewing to inspire your intrinsic (self) motivation. It doesn’t take brow-beating or nagging when you are working with me, but I don't sugar coat it. I will speak truth, even when it's uncomfortable for you, and will help you tap into your deep, authentic self-motivation to change!

Speed:

Most people find that things start to happen very quickly after hiring me, but honestly, it's up to you: are you ready to do the work?

Who works with a transformation mentor or  coach?

Transformational mentorship or coaching is for everyone: entrepreneurs, executives, business leaders, performers, creatives, small business owners, entrepreneurs, start-ups, professionals, managers, sales teams, adult students, and domestic goddesses all reach their goals with the help of a life coach.

If there is a gap between where you are now and where you want to be, coaching can help you breach that gap. I can help you bust through your limiting beliefs and challenge you to think bigger!
